Maria Xylia is a Research Fellow at Stockholm Environment Institute. She works in energy systems analysis, with a
particular focus on the transition to fossil-free solutions for transport and smart grids. Maria Xylia holds a PhD on energy technology from KTH Royal Institute of Technology with a focus on
strategic planning for charging infrastructure deployment, a Licentiate from KTH Royal Institute of Technology on energy efficiency policies in hard-to-decarbonise sectors such as industry and
transport, a Masters degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and an Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Patras.
At MediaTech Hub Conference, Maria Xylia will join the discussion “Energy: How Smart is Your
Consumption?” taking place on the Industry Stage on November 11, 2021. In preparation for her panel at
#mthcon2021, Maria Xylia answered the following questions:
In one sentence, what does media technology mean to you?
It is essential for communication and can help foster adoption of renewable technologies.
Where do you see the biggest opportunities for MediaTech in your sector?
Facilitating gamification of energy savings will be very beneficial.
What are the key messages you will share at #mthcon2021?
Communities need to come together to test new energy technologies; sharing the risks but also the benefits. In this effort, media technologies can be an important tool allowing higher flexibility
in the energy system.
