Maria Xylia is a Research Fellow at Stockholm Environment Institute. She works in energy systems analysis, with a particular focus on the transition to fossil-free solutions for transport and smart grids. Maria Xylia holds a PhD on energy technology from KTH Royal Institute of Technology with a focus on strategic planning for charging infrastructure deployment, a Licentiate from KTH Royal Institute of Technology on energy efficiency policies in hard-to-decarbonise sectors such as industry and transport, a Masters degree in Sustainable Energy Engineering from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and an Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Patras.

Communities need to come together to test new energy technologies; sharing the risks but also the benefits. In this effort, media technologies can be an important tool allowing higher flexibility in the energy system.
