This year, Germany’s leading MediaTech conference will take place on Sep 25 | 26 at the Babelsberg Studios. At a location where innovation in media technology has been a tradition for more than 100 years, you will find your MediaTech update for the film industry – for production, post-production and distribution.

On stage, more than 50 international speakers will share their expertise and ideas with you and present the latest MediaTech innovations and use cases. Off stage, a series of special networking events will give you the opportunity to connect with professionals from broadcasters, VoD platforms and production companies, technology vendors and industry associations, as well as young talents and startup founders.

Hub for MediaTech innovation

Apart from its vibrant film scene, Babelsberg has also made a name for itself as the innovation hub for MediaTech. It is home to pioneering LED and virtual production studios, the first German volumetric studio, and state-of-the-art post-production facilities.

Since 2017, Babelsberg has also been the homebase of the MediaTech Hub Potsdam, one of twelve national digital hubs – and the host of #MTHCON.

The MediaTech Hub Potsdam unites the region’s top MediaTech talent – specialists, visionaries, researchers, companies, startups, and universities. In the heart of Babelsberg, the Hub drives innovation and strengthens the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

A conference venue with unique film history

Back in 1911, it all started with an old paper flower factory, discovered and transformed into the world’s first large-scale film studio by the film pioneer Guido Seeber. Today, five political systems later, Babelsberg is the leading European centre for filmmaking technology.

More than 4.000 films have been produced in the Babelsberg Studios since the first production of The Dance of Death in 1912; meanwhile that first studio building is easy to miss among the many new film and TV studios and outdoor sets.

Wes Anderson, Fritz Lang, Marlene Dietrich, Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino, and, most recently, Lana Wachowski and Baran bo Odar have all found a creative home in Babelsberg – and they won’t be the last to use this iconic film location.

Action film shoot for the film “Point Break” in Babelsberg Studios

Rotor Film: This historic location is today one of the most innovative studios for film post-production and the venue for the Expert Stage of #MTHCON24.

Directly behind the main gate of Babelsberg Studios is the fx.Center – the conference center of #MTHCON24. The building creates a unique atmosphere with its light-flooded atrium and cascading stairs, and the fx.Center Cinema also hosts our Horizon Stage.

With Metropolitan Backlot, Babelsberg Studios offers one of Europe’s most extensive and modern backlot sets for feature film, TV, and commercial productions. Countless movies, TV series and commercials were already filmed here, including “Babylon Berlin”, “Berlin Station”, and “The Matrix Resurrections”.

The Art Department Studio Babelsberg is working internationally as a full-service provider for sets in the areas of film, TV, theatre, exhibitions, trade fairs, brand environments, events and special constructions.

Babelsberg Studios offers one of the largest exterior green screen walls in Europe for green screen, blue screen and VFX shooting. The infinity cove at the left end of the green screen allows the option of a second wall and guarantees edge-free illumination at the transition at a 90 degree angle.

In 2020, Babelsberg Studios named its largest sound stage (Stage 20) „Rainbow Stage“ in honor of the filmmakers Lana and Lilly Wachowski. With this, Babelsberg Studios sends a clear message for tolerance, respect and diversity.

Babelsberg Studios offers Germany’s largest indoor water tank for water and underwater filming.
